M A I K O & G E I K O

my Kyoto Drawing Journal
Personal project

Living in Kyoto, I discovered this fascinating world and remain deeply inspired by the poetic harmony of colors these artists embody.
Through our encounters β€” odori (dance) performances and private events β€”
I’ve had the privilege of meeting them and preserving those memories through my drawings.

I continue to pursue this project with joy and admiration for the incredible Kyoto culture I have the chance to witness.

The first maiko I met was Ichiyuri-san, from Pontocho, in November 2024.
That encounter sparked my inspiration and gave me the wish to one day draw all the maiko of Pontocho.
I also follow, with great interest and passion, the events and traditions of Kyoto’s other kagai‍ ‍
the historic districts where geiko (geisha) and maiko (apprentice geisha) live and perform.

These illustrations are created during live model drawing sessions, at private or public events where photography is authorized.
